Kindle Fire HD 7 Is Actually A Decent Medium For A Tablet

Kindle Fire HD 7. Underlooked? Underrated?

We Gave It A Shot.

Here’s what we think about the Kindle Fire HD 7.

First, The Specs:

It comes with a pretty good IPS display that is 7″ (171 ppi / 1024 x 600) and a 1.3 quad core processor.

It also has rear and front facing cameras, and the casing comes in four colors. (Black, Deep Orange, Colorful Blue, & Hot Pink)

It also notes that Alexa (their version of Siri) will soon be a near future upgrade.

It has Amazon Underground which is a one-of-a-kind app store experience where thousands of apps and games are free. They did a decent job of promoting their app store through some good free content.

You can enjoy your media (just like any tablet) through Kindle e-books, Netflix, Facebook, HBO, Pandora, and more like those.

It has 8 or 16 GB of internal storage you can choose from, with free unlimited cloud storage for all Amazon content and photos taken with Fire devices. (which is pretty cool)

You can also add a MicroSD card to add up to 200GB of internal storage.

It states you can also use it up to 7 hours of reading, surfing the web, watching videos and listening to music.

First Impressions

After opening the box and turning it on, we liked how the display was actually NOT BAD. It’s definitely not going to be a premium product like iPad (found here) but it does have a nice colorful display thats good for surfing the web and watching movies/videos.

Keep in mind, our impression of this tablet was a good overall everyday use tablet, kinda just to throw around and do whatever with it. We didn’t get the same precious quality feel of an iPad. (Or Surface product neither)

When we played around with the OS (Fire OS) it was fast enough and responsive. It honestly just feels like a tablet for Netflix or using it to read recipes with while we cooked.

We took it to read a few books, and while the screen is nice (and it also comes with a night dimming mode for reading) we felt if you want to read books, you should definitely get the Kindle Paperwhite instead. Amazon did a better job with that product because it takes out the bright screen effect (regardless if you put a yellow filter on it to protect your eyes)

If you are a user of an Amazon Prime account, and you frequently use Amazon’s services, the Kindle Fire HD 7 is definitely a good pick for you to keep around the house.

From what we felt, this tablet is designed for someone that just really wants a general tablet around the house to do the dirty work.

By dirty work we mean:

  1. Having a tablet while you cook next to those messy ingredients
  2. Having a tablet on the couch looking up information while you watch a debate or TV program.
  3. Having the Kindle Fire HD 7 so you won’t get your iPad abused and dirty from the kids. (or horrible friends)

Can I get apps from the Google Play Store?

Yes, but you have to use some weird third party source, we wouldn’t recommend it.

Is it good as an e-reader?

Absolutely, its a good tablet just to look up information.

What kind of kid-proof case is there?

This is an insane kid’s proof case.

Reliability And Uses

Again as we said, we thought it was good for these uses:

  1. The Kindle Fire HD 7 seemed like a good tablet just to keep around the house for general uses (the throw around tablet).
  2. We felt like it was good to give kids too, so they won’t destroy your beautiful iPad or Surface.
  3. It would also be a great Christmas gift.

What About The HD 8?

The Kindle Fire HD 8 is similar just a bit bigger with an 8 inch screen.

You can look at it here: All-New Fire HD 8 Tablet

Comparing With Others

The Kindle Fire HD 7 is nothing like the new iPad found here.

However the Kindle Fire HD 7 outside of home, we would highly recommend for school to a student.

Final Verdict

This Tablet, is good.

And many people seem to overlook it and underrate it because its Amazon’s brand, and it may look a little silly with all the bright colors.

But we need to understand that the Kindle Fire HD 7 was made for a specific audience, and we feel like that audience just wants a very convenient tablet for general utility. (At least thats what we feel thats what they are aiming for)

We recommend it for students, stay at home mothers, and people that want a second tablet away from their iPad.

To buy one, you can get one here: Kindle Fire HD 7 , they have very fast shipping (usually next day or same day) and it looks like an already hot seller for Christmas 2016.
